See the positions behind the headline
A net position is a starting point. Explore long and short exposure alongside the net figure to understand how a trader category arrived at its position. A change in net exposure can come from adding to one side, reducing the other, or both.
CIPEX uses CFTC futures-only reports. Categories differ by report family: managed money, leveraged funds and commercial traders are not interchangeable labels. The workspace retains the relevant category for each market so comparisons have a clear meaning.
Give the latest report some history
View positioning over time instead of treating one weekly observation as a complete picture. Historical charts help you compare the latest reading with earlier periods, then inspect price context separately.
Report dates remain visible. COT describes positions at a reporting date and is published later; it is not a live record of institutional orders. A large position or an unusual historical reading does not establish the timing of a reversal.
